Gangnam, Cheongdam, Hongdae or Myeongdong: Does the District Change the Clinic?

What Seoul’s clinic districts differ on, what they don’t, and how to pick one for your trip. Based on 30 clinics listing English support and their Google Maps figures.

“Gangnam or Cheongdam?” is one of the first questions people ask, and it is the wrong shape. The district does tell you some things about a clinic, and they are useful things. But the questions that decide your visit, what is injected, who injects it, what it costs and who answers afterwards, are the same in every district and are not answered by the address.

Here is what we can actually see, from the 30 Seoul clinics that list English support on their own pages, and what we cannot.

What the district does tell you

Scale. The clearest pattern in the public data is not price or quality. It is size. Around Gangnam Station, on the Gangnam-daero and Teheran-ro corridor, the listings are multi-floor operations: one clinic occupies floors 14 to 18 of its building, another floors 10 and 11, another has four branches across the city. Six of the seven Gangnam Station listings carry from roughly 700 to 2,900 Google Maps ratings each. Hongdae is similar in kind, slightly smaller in number: five listings, four of them with about 580 to 680 ratings, most spread over several floors of the same buildings on Yanghwa-ro.

Cheongdam and Apgujeong look different. The listings there are smaller, and several carry only a handful of Google ratings, three to a few hundred. Some of that is age: a branch that opened recently has not had time to collect ratings. Some of it is model: a clinic seeing fewer patients per day, at a higher price per patient, collects fewer reviews. Both are legitimate. Neither is visible in the word “Cheongdam” on its own.

Myeongdong sits between: three clinics within a few minutes of each other, one with about 500 ratings and two with far fewer.

Reach. The map matters for logistics, and logistics matter more than people expect when a treatment is squeezed into a trip.

  • Hongdae is on the airport railroad from Incheon (the all-stop train; the express skips it), a few stops before Seoul Station. If you are planning a consultation on arrival day, it is the least friction.
  • Myeongdong is where many first-time visitors stay. The three listings are a walk from the hotels, not a taxi.
  • Gangnam Station is on Line 2 and the Sinbundang line, with the highest density of listings in our set (seven at the station itself, ten if you count Seocho, Sinnonhyeon and Seolleung on the same corridor). Easy to reach, easy to compare in person.
  • Cheongdam and Apgujeong are on Lines 3, 7 and the Bundang line. Quieter streets, fewer walk-ins, more appointment-driven.
  • Yeouido and Dangsan have one listing each, on the west side of the river. Convenient only if you are already there.

How the clinic is organised. This follows from scale. A multi-floor, high-volume clinic is usually consultant-led at the front: a coordinator quotes and books, the doctor sees you before the procedure, and the queue moves. A small clinic is more likely to be doctor-led from the first conversation. We wrote about who does what inside a clinic; the district gives you a hint about which model you are walking into, but only the clinic can confirm it.

What the district does not tell you

Price. This is the one people most want the district to answer, and it does not. Prices in Seoul are set per clinic and per product, and most clinics in every district do not publish them: of the 30 we checked, only seven list any prices on their public pages, and one of those is a consultation fee rather than a treatment price. Our public price reference is a Gangnam sample, deliberately, because that is where enough public offers exist to compute a range. We do not have a Cheongdam sample to compare it against, and we are not going to pretend one exists. If someone tells you “Cheongdam is 30% more,” ask them for the two written quotes that show it.

English. The word “Gangnam” is often used as shorthand for “foreigner-friendly.” The public pages say something narrower. Of the 30 clinics, 26 list English through an interpreter, coordinator or contact team. Only three list English-speaking doctors, and one lists limited doctor English with staff support. The three are not in one district: one at Gangnam Station, one in Seocho, one in Apgujeong. Cheongdam’s four listings all describe interpretation, not doctor English. So “Gangnam” does not buy you a doctor who speaks English. A direct question does, or does not.

Aftercare from abroad. Only one of the 30 clinics states an English follow-up channel for after you leave Korea, and it is a small clinic near Sinsa, not one of the big-name operations. The rest may have one; their pages do not say. If your departure date is fixed, this matters more than the district, and the booking checklist has the message for it.

Quality. Nothing in the address, the rating count or the floor number tells you whether a treatment is right for you or will be done well. A 4.9 with 2,900 ratings and a 5.0 with 3 ratings are describing different things: a large, established operation and a small or new one. The Google Maps figures on our clinic pages are shown as dated snapshots with the count next to the score for exactly that reason, and we do not sort by them.

How to choose, by situation

You land in the morning and want a consultation the same day. Hongdae, for the airport railroad. Book the consultation only. Whether anything should be done to your skin after twelve hours in a cabin is the clinician’s call, and a clinic that offers to inject on arrival without asking about the flight has answered a question you did not ask.

You are staying in Myeongdong for three nights and want minimal travel. The three Myeongdong listings, then one Gangnam Station comparison by subway if you want a second quote. Two written quotes are enough to see whether the numbers are describing the same product.

You want the doctor, not a coordinator, to be the person you talk to. Filter for English-speaking doctors listed first, then ask the who-treats-me question. Expect a smaller clinic, a charged or credited consultation, and fewer walk-in slots. Do not expect it to be in Cheongdam just because Cheongdam sounds like that.

You have a fixed departure date. Choose by aftercare, not by district. Ask every candidate the same question about contact after departure, and pick among the ones that answer in writing. The district can be whichever is left.

You want to compare several clinics in one afternoon. Gangnam Station. The corridor has the density, the subway does the rest, and the multi-floor clinics are used to consultation-only visits.

The same message, whichever district

Send this to every clinic you are considering, in the same words, and read the replies side by side:

Hi! Could you confirm the exact product and variant, cc per visit, treatment areas, number of visits, and final total including VAT? Who does the consultation and who performs the treatment? How can I contact you after I have left Korea?

The clinic that answers all three parts clearly, in a district that fits your itinerary, is the shortlist. The district got you to the door. The reply tells you what is behind it.

The 30 clinics, their districts, what their pages establish and the dated Google Maps figures are on the clinic list. Counts and figures in this article were checked on 14 September 2026 and will drift.

Questions people ask

Is Cheongdam more expensive than Gangnam Station?

We cannot confirm that from public data. Prices are set per clinic and per product, and most clinics in every district do not publish them. Our public price reference is a Gangnam sample only. Compare written quotes, not districts.

Which district has the most English-speaking doctors?

Among the 30 clinics we checked, only three list English-speaking doctors on their own pages, and they are spread across Gangnam Station, Seocho and Apgujeong. Most clinics in every district list an interpreter or coordinator instead. Ask who will be in the room.

Is a clinic with thousands of Google ratings better than one with ten?

It is bigger, or older, or both. A rating count is a scale signal, not a quality score. A branch that opened this year can be excellent with three ratings, and a high-volume clinic can be excellent at volume. Read the ratings for the branch you are booking, then ask your questions.

I land at Incheon in the morning. Which area is easiest for a same-day consultation?

Hongdae is on the airport railroad's all-stop train; Myeongdong and Gangnam Station need one transfer. But same-day treatment after a long flight is a question for the clinician, not for the map. Book the consultation, not the procedure.
